Megastar Stylist/Costume Designer Nancy Steiner Steps into theSpotlight

Most stylists don't have as diverse a career as yours: videos, commercial, independent film, studio do you pick a project and what do you like working on the most? I try to pick projects that are interesting stories, or have an interesting cast and crew. Mostly i love collaborating and people that want to do that as well.

Most stylists don't have as diverse a career as yours: videos, commercial, independent film, studio do you pick a project and what do you like working on the most?

Has the industry changed a lot from when you started out? It's changed enormously. For one, I don't do music videos any more because they don't really make many like they used to. Video has been on the way out for a while now. I'm really glad i got to be a part of that world when it was thriving because it was super creative and new ways of making visuals. Commercials and film have less time and money and it seems to get worse all the time. Also they take a lot less risks. Films especially don't take many chances with subject matter, relying on re-makes and franchised stories. Recently the middle range of budgets in film have mostly disappeared and it seems there are just super high budgets or low budgets.

Has the industry changed a lot from when you started out?

When you are preparing for a project, what is your creative process? After speaking with the director about the way he or she sees the character, I will start to look at magazines, books, etc. for inspiration. Sometimes I will sit at the farmers market or go downtown and take pictures of regular people ( if it's a contemporary film ) to get details about how people dress.

When you are preparing for a project, what is your creative process?

I think about how the character would shop for clothes, if they like to go shopping or hate it and how that comes out in what they wear.Do they take care for their clothes or throw them on the floor when they get undressed? Do they carry things in their pockets on a daily basis? (keys, coins, maybe a good luck charm). If they do, I'll put those items into the pockets of their costume. It's a psychological thing: getting into their brain about it all. How the character feels about their body is also a big decider as to how I dress them.

Have you ever had a crush on one of these characters after you've been imagining how they would shop, dress, feel? I've had a crush in a way that I like that character but not in a romantic way. What's the vibe like on a giant project vs a more intimate one? Really it just comes down to being more intimate on a small film. There's also more of a feeling of doing it for the art, as usually everyone's making a lot less money on a low budget film. On a bigger budget, you have a lot more cooks in the kitchen with the studio, producers, etc.

This book contributes an important voice to an ongoing controversy in Western mission communities with regard to the emergence of so-called insider movements. The theological and communal preferences of communities which describe themselves as Muslim but follow Christ have been hotly debated in a variety of venues during the past years. Full of extensive quotes gleaned from interviews with leaders of some of these groups, Prenger has given them voice in a way which will be of great interest to people engaged in these debates.

Megachurches are of relatively recent vintage. Their numerical strength invests them with social and financial power. To whom, if anyone, however, are megachurches accountable? What role do they play as innovators in missions? How have their enormous influence and financial strength been harnessed? What lessons can be learned? What course corrections ought to be made? Over the course of a week, the third meeting of the Korean Global Mission Leadership Forum (KGMLF), held in Korea in 2015, addressed these and related questions. Combining the insights of a rich mix of Korean and international megachurch leaders and scholars, offers analysis, critique, and positive recommendations for future megachurch engagement in mission. This book is the third volume in KGMLF’s Accountability in Missions series.

This book is far more significant than its title may suggest. It is a missiological mine, from which readers may bring up valuable material, not only about megachurches, but also on migration and diaspora, multiple patterns of church and ministry, intercultural relations in mission, the place of Korea in World Christianity, South-South dynamics in mission, and many other topics. It deserves a wide circulation.

In an age of shifting demographics and evolving mission structures, Megachurch Accountability is a timely and important book. Around the world, megachurches are shaping missional conversations and providing vast resources for missions and outreach. The authors reflect on this growing phenomenon from historical, missiological, biblical, and practical perspectives. I highly recommend this book as a substantial contribution to an urgent conversation about contemporary mission practices.

The Guild of Book Workers 2018-2019 Exhibition

Guild of Book Workers Formation Book Arts Exhibition Begins Two Year National Tour

The Guild of Book Workers is pleased to present Formation , the Guild’s triennial members’ exhibition.

Simply defined by Merriam Webster as “an act of giving form or shape to something,” formation can insinuate process, history, creation, change, beginnings, an arrangement, botany and landscape, personal narratives and impersonal storytelling. What makes us into the artists we are? How does our creative process influence the final product? What pushes us to continue to create? People, events, memories all combine to influence the art we make about the world around us, even if our work isn’t explicitly autobiographical. The Guild of Book Workers’ 2018-2019 exhibition encouraged members to consider how the act of formation spoke to their artistic process.

The Formation Exhibition features 51 works from 46 members that will travel across the U.S. from June 2018 through October 2019. The show opens at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It will be held at MCBA until the Guild of Book Workers’ annual Standards of Excellence Seminar in October 2018. Formation will tour the country, stopping at the Robert C. Williams Papermaking Museum in Atlanta, GA, UCLA’s Charles E. Young Research Library, the North Bennet Street School in Boston, MA, and the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. A complete tour schedule is online at Womens Fleece Warm Indoor House Bedroom Slippers Indoor Slippers Cream Color Gvn4NtEy7

An accompanying printed exhibition catalog, published this year as a special edition of the Guild of Book Workers’ Journal, will be available for sale at the venues and online at . The catalog features full color photographs and complete descriptions of each work; biographies of the artists; remarks from jurors Coleen Curry, Graham Patten, and Sarah Smith; and essays by Formation curator Jackie Scott and Guild of Book Workers President Bexx Caswell.

The Formation Exhibition honors the legacy of the book workers’ craft and celebrates some of the finest examples of book arts today. Founded in 1906, the Guild of Book Workers has over 900 members today and is the only national organization dedicated to all of the book arts, including bookbinding, conservation, printing, papermaking, calligraphy, marbling, and artists’ books. At a time when the masses are considering the materiality of the book and its presence or absence as a physical object, it is exciting to showcase the many hand crafts of the book form. The work presented in the Formation Exhibition is a vibrant and dynamic collection of Artists’ Books, Fine Bindings, Fine Press Printing, Calligraphy, and Sculptural Book Works that showcase both the history of the Book Worker’s craft, as well as contemporary interpretations of the book form. The Guild of Book Workers promotes interest in and awareness of the tradition of the book and paper arts by maintaining high standards of workmanship, hosting educational opportunities, and sponsoring exhibits.
